Sofía D. Boscio-López

Co-Founder & Public Relations Coordinator

From “La Ciudad Bruja,” Guayama, P.R., Sofia has always loved getting creative and figuring out what can be built. So, when it was time to choosing her major, she knew she wanted something related to construction. That is why she knew Civil Engineering was her path.

During her bachelor’s degree, she did various investigations related to transportation, and additionally, she was the 1st female Captain of the UPRM Steel Bridge Team 2018-2019.

She is pursuing a career in Geotechnical Engineering and working with Girls in Civil to improve the outreach of the construction field.

Gilmarie O’Neill Medina

Co-Founder & Store Marketing Coordinator

From “La Villa del Capitan Correa,” Arecibo, P.R., Gilmarie is a strong and curious undergraduate student from the UPRM. She loves to dance and research self-development to grow in every aspect of her life.

During the first years of her bachelor’s degree, she joined everything she could to gain experience. Also, I was co-captain with the founder of Girls in Civil (Sofia) of the UPRM Steel Bridge Team. Finding her love for Transportation Engineering during the last years, she focused on researching themes like e-scooters and managed lanes.

Right now, she is in her last semester of Civil Engineering and currently working with Girls in Civil to empower young individuals to achieve their full potential. Focusing more on using social media platforms to share tips and tricks for their short and long-term goals.

Rocío Sotomayor Irizarry

Co-Founder & Events Coordinator

¡Wepa! Rocío is from “La Ciudad de la Piña Cabezona”, Lajas. A fourth-year civil engineering student with a minor in Resilient Infrastructure and Sustainability Education Program (RISE-UP).

She is currently a councilwoman for the Faculty of Engineering Student Council (CEFI) and a transportation researcher. You may probably find her at the beach.

Gabriela Yañez González

Co-Founder & Outreach Coordinator

From “La ciudad donde los dioses murieron”, Añasco, P.R., Gabriela is young female pursuing a career in Civil Engineering.

Since freshman year, she joined the ASCE student chapter at the University of Puerto Rico-Mayagüez. Here she developed her leadership skills and love for helping and giving back to the community.

She joined the Girls in Civil to help motivate young kids to pursue a career in Civil Engineering and STEM-related fields.

Charmelis A. Reyes Cruz

Co-Founder & Financial Manager

Born in the Dominican Republic and raised in Bayamón, Puerto Rico, Charmelis has always had a great passion for creating things. She spent her high school years in Central High School for Visual Artes, where she developed her love for art and an eye for aesthetics and design.

Now Charmelis is finishing her bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez (UPRM). During the past five years, she has held various leadership positions, such as the Community Service Committee of the American Society of Civil Engineers, co-captain of the UPRM Steel Bridge Team, and Vice president of the American Institute of Steel Construction.

Currently, Charmelis is researching equity in transportation, evaluating how underserved communities can better access different transit modes. And when she graduates, she hopes to pursue a master’s degree in Transportation Planning.

Laura M. Rosario Gonzalez

Co-Founder & Marketing Assistant

From “La Ciudad de Los Indios,” Canovanas, P.R., Laura has always been interested in the arts and sustainable construction. She is a 6th year Civil Engineer Student with a minor in Art, studying at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez.

During her time as a student, she has participated in various projects such as The Concrete Canoe Team and The Seismic Design Team. She also formed part of The ASCE student chapter directive for two years, in which she learned leadership and problem-solving skills.

Laura is currently finishing her last year of University while working with Girls in Civil to help others reach their full potential and achieve their goals.
